Because there's no hope of any resistance if you spend the few resources you have on marginally improving people's lives instead of resisting an occupation and at the very least trying to change the status quo. You're misinformed if you think Hamas to be a wealthy organisation or if you think Gaza has any chance of economic prosperity under a siege that has lasted 18 years.

@daveisbrill I don't know, but in any case it wouldn't even come close to what the US supplies Israel with. Including white phosphorus. My point is that blaming Hamas for the poverty of Gaza is like blaming a gang for the inequality in their town. It's systematic and deliberate. Otherwise Israel wouldn't cut off water, food and medicine to an impoverished civilian population. You're nitpicking when you should focus on the crimes against humanity that Israel is committing, funded and supported by the US taxpayer. And then there's the racism, apartheid, occupation, extrajudicial imprisonment and killings. Israel has never been nor ever will be a moral country until the zionist supremacist ideology is confronted and thoroughly defeated like we saw with fascism/nazism in the 1940s. They need to see their dreams of "blood and soil" racial supremacy shattered and utterly broken. Only then will there be a chance for peace. Hamas is a product of Israel. Israel chose to become this dystopian piece of shit society that they are.
