  1. I'm sorry, but I would argue you also used a strawman argument. You are whitewashing the more aggressive atheist ideologies. I would counter and argue that any "religiously motivated" strife always has other root causes: power, land, wealth, ressources. By your own argument, that must mean that NO religion is to blame, just as atehism is never to blame. Right? I agree wholeheartedly with Mitchell in that (paraphrasing) "Atheist are naive in thinking that atheist belief systems aren't just as potentially susceptible to murderous extremism as any religion they oppose". Atheists should be just as against any fundamentalist ideology as they are against organized religion. They are not. Power and doctrinal ideology of any sorts is an evil. Even "crusading" atheists that see every person of religion as stupid and irrational.
