"The last human born" is such an intriguing concept. I wonder with technology, biological and/or digital enhancements throughout the centuries if our very distant grand children would even be considered "human" by our limited perspective. Would humans even be "born" by then?

Sometimes you need to hit rock bottom before you can accept that you have a problem, and start working on the solution. WW2, however horrible it was, brought forth many important ideas and norms that we've tried (sometimes failed) to live by and uphold. As long as we keep trying we'll get there...

Veto right Very important to mention that as it means Malta and Luxembourg can ratfuck the rest of us with regards to proper taxation of multinationals and billionaire capitalists

The very assumptions of the Fermi Paradox with regards to advanced life is based on "Big Ifs" assumptions. Could it be a dark forest? Sure. But it could also be distance X timing (rise and fall of civilizations) X rarity of advanced life that is the answer. We've only begun to monitor space and to start questioning why we haven't heard or seen anything yet is akin to a child in the car asking after 5 minutes "Are we there yet". And that's of course based on our singular development as a species, our modes of technology and communication...

Fraud. Just saved you 10 minutes. Read Ben Goldacres superb deconstruction of homeopathy.

@Jose As I said, it's hard for us to imagine. Whilst uploading our minds and living forever digitally sounds great, I'd have to witness that society first hand to tell you if it's an actual improvement for society and the individual. An eternal digital domain where everything is possible would quickly become stagnant and stale without new humans "born" and older human minds perishing and making room. Just think of the average white man from the 1800's and consider if they would have made room for the positive and egalitarian changes that we've seen the last 100 years if they were still heavily in power. What you're describing is a dystopia camouflaged as a paradise.

@Jose No, not closed minded, just sceptical. Every technology we've created have brought great things with it and have also impacted lives negatively. Case in point: The internet the last 20 years. Good? Bad? Both? I think it's naive to think that people in power, now exceedingly wealthy and effectively immortal, would willingly cede that power. Especially if their views and norms are conflicting with the general population. Imagine a 1700's French noble or 1800's Plantation owner from the South still weilding the same political and economical power today... Being a bit sceptic about technology is healthy.

It's exceedingly arrogant to think alien civilizations are hard to find, just because we've been actively searching for them for 60+ years out of the last 10 billion years and among 100.000 lightyears and 200 billion stars just in our own galaxy. The solution to the Fermi "paradox" is this: Time. Distance. And the (faulty?) assumption that visible megastructures, technological paths and means of communication would be universal. End of discussion.
