Democracy in Greece was never truly democratic. It was an oligarchy. Slaves and non-citizens were more numerous and women were excluded. We didn't lose anything from Greece in terms of civil institutions or governance. And the fall of Rome arguably made the case for "learning" how to build more robust republican systems. Although it sadly seems the entire West are starting to forget that lesson.

@droubal Well, then they weren't democracies. And shouldn't present themselves as such. The oldest democracies are around 110 years old, since that's when women were enfranchised.
