  2. Exactly. They had not overall strategy for winning the war beyond winning decisive battles, which they did repeatedly. Grant merely gøslowly grinded their capabilities to dust after each battle, win or lose. Fun fact: Lee had a higher rate of losses than Grant. If anyone, Lee and people like Jackson and Hood were the true "butchers".
