Japanese have a system of not being entirely honest when they speak in interviews. They may say what's polite or expected. It's all nuanced there.

Elder abuse? Please don't.

People like it when others express interest in their own things. It's natural she smiled. Most people anywhere in the world would have done so. And perhaps one of you was ok, but if there were several of you, you'd be yapping away and disturbing them so there would not have been smiles.

It's only like that because US kicked their butts in 1945 so now they're super peaceful.
1
Without that US military, Japan would have been like North Korea. Japanese people told me that.

They are anti foreigner. My father's friend, a Brit, married a Japanese woman in the 1980s. Her family disowned her for that.

Probably polite. And should be. Had Japan won WW2 they would have decimated Asia. US won WW2 and now Japan is No 3 economy and a magnet for weebs. Old people in general tend to be laid back and more reserved. As people age, psychologically and physiologically changes occur which make them get less angry.

@etas1c My original country? It was one of the most tolerant countries in Europe. Japan destroyed whole industries in various countries. They should be happy that any foreigners visit. We helped Vietnamese and Koreans too in the 20th century. Please don't make light of the Japanese genocide of various Asian peoples. And now Japan complains when other countries create monuments to Korean comfort women. Can it get more real. Imagine the Germans complaining when the Brits commemorate the Blitz or something or the Holocaust.

@aquariandawn4750 No. If you're visiting a country because the Japanese government is encouraging it, you're going to spend money there and generate jobs. You should not have to learn any language. The idea that someone should do that is beyond ridiculous and strange. If you emigrate and want to naturalise it depends on the law and it's very hard to naturalise in Japan and I'm sure you will have to pass language exams. So they have that covered. But tourists spending money having to learn Japanese phrases? How about no. How about I go to a 100 other countries which are just as beautiful and there' s no army of weebs or child hentai fans defending them.

Japan's been rich since 1970s and had no wars and utter peace after 1945, Korea had wars until recently, still is officially at war and they started to get rich in the late 90s.

Don't be too much of a weeb. There's nothing to love. They're people like you. Don't worship marketing stereotypes.
1
This is silly. How old are you? If you travel to a foreign country- 1. OBEY the law. That's it. Definitely don't have to learn language. If you're wanted by a Japanese business and you're valuable they will make the effort to communicate with you. If you're not valuable, to anyone, don't apply. If you're a tourist, you definitely should not have to learn any local language. Tourists spend money and the Japanese government is on a tourism promotion drive. They want tourists and ordinary street Japanese and weebs should close their mouths.

Japanese don't want foreigners. Learning Japanese and becoming a weeb who knows what a JC or a JK is, is not what they want. They want a nice Buddhist/Shinto Japan. I have Christian Japanese friends and even for them some things are off. Life's hard there, some people want to move.

I'm sure they notice. Even as a white guy I can often tell them apart. It's even easier with whites for me, from looking at a face I can guess where in Europe one is likely from.
1
@aretou774 You can tell Korean vs Chinese vs Japanese often by looking at the face.
1
@aretou774 They consider them worse than Europeans.

They will have to lock up their granddaughters, probably underage ones, as most otakus are likely lolicons.
