  3.  @Real_Person_Not_A_Bot  East is also a synonym for the Eastern Roman Empire and the West for Western Roman Empire. As such those countries which use the Latin alphabet and are Roman Catholic would be Western and those which are Orthodox/Byzantine would be Eastern. Nothing to do with Soviet. And what the heck is Post-Soviet? Is that a country which broke away from the USSR or a satellite?
