West vs East. It depends on the scale. West could mean Europe vs East meaning Asia. We have the near east or the middle east and we have the far east. In terms of politics the West would be capitalist. In terms of Europe: Western Europe = influenced by / part of the Western Roman Empire. Eastern Europe = influenced or part of the Byzantine Empire. The cold war division of east vs west as dependent on who the hegemon or security guarantor was makes no sense as they are defunct. Geographically one can also divide Europe but then a large part of "Eastern Europe" is central, given the European Russia is quite large.

It's really rich to claim to know so much about one's "Europe" and at the same time use incorrect currency to represent the Polish zloty. Especially as the Baltics hope that Poland will be one of those chief countries to defend them from Russian aggression. But hey, it's fine to hate on Americans, while silly Europeans can't even get their act in order.

The division isn't about the "Holy Roman Empire", neither holy nor Roman, but it is about the Church which influenced the society and also the alphabet and likely the type of civilisation. You have the Byzantine (Orthodox) world influenced by the Eastern Roman Empire and the Western Roman Empire which is the Catholic world/ Roman. With that you find Cyrillic and you find the Latin alphabet. You will also find different types of civilisation, you can look to Felix Koneczny for that.

@czarlito_ West is not Western Europe. West can mean European - i.e. white culture usually Greco-Roman, vs say Eastern or Tartaric, so West vs India, China etc. Or we could say it's Western Europe vs Eastern Europe as Western vs Eastern Roman Empire, in which case Scandinavia would be inherit the Western culture as would Poland, Czechia etc because of the Roman Catholic faith and Latin alphabet (Protestant splits were later).

@maximusthezoura Many of these countries are not eastern geographically. You're just poorly educated.

@Alejojojo6 What are you on about? Why do you prove that you can't reason? You use ad hominem. That's a logical fallacy. It makes no sense to divide Europe like that because the Iron Curtain was a recent development, it was imposed by Russia against West (the West did not want it i.e. the US and Britain did not want it) and it was not wanted by Poles either. Secondly the Iron Curtain is OVER. It makes no sense to arbitrarily decide to use the Iron Curtain when for the past 1,000 years Poland was CATHOLIC, LATIN and was Christianised/Crowned by the Pope in Rome i.e. the head of the Western Church and the head of the Western civilisation. No it did not culturally shape Europe because Poles like Brzezinski and now Kaczynski or Duda or anyone else are not Russian or Orthodox or communist in their outlook. Poles were always Western. Poles Kosciszko and Pulaski are like Americans. Poland is a British like country and is different to the Germans/Austrians who were authoritarian but Poles like Jefferson were always LIBERAL, liberal in the classic sense. Poland had similar laws to Habeas Corpus and similar laws to the Magna Carta that the British had and the US is based on. It therefore makes NO SENSE to speak of Poland as eastern culturally. Never mind that we are also Catholic, and we are Latin and we look to the West. There are 20million Poles in the US who side with democracy and liberal (classic liberal) ideas on average. So again it makes no sense to call a CATHOLIC country Othrodox, a country which always had liberal and democratic traditions and which had personal liberties and which had Western classic music, Western art, Western architecture and now sides with the rest of the West. It is only because you are Russian you are saying silly things.

@Alejojojo6 You write absolute rubbish.

@spaceowl5957 Many people also think Poland has polar bears. You make no sense. The division of Europe is based mostly on religion/alphabet and that is either Rome or Constantinople. It has nothing to do with Slavic. So why are Portuguese and Germans and Celts who are completely different to each other in the West while the Slavs are in the east. It makes no sense to use this.

Yes Austria is the Eastern Reich, while Germany is the third one.
