  1. We use abductive reasoning when deciding what the symptoms and signs (and other findings) may represent. You have your differential diagnosis and then depending on resources run every test possible or as happens in the real world, go for what's more likely and should not be missed and target that. Diagnoses are rarely clear cut initially. Often the presentation differs from what's taught or reported and one has to apply some experience.
