Poland achieved way more. Poland did not exist before WW1, as it had been partitioned and Russified/Germanified since the end of the 18th century. After it regained independence and had to fight for it too, it had to fend off the Soviets in 1920/21 in the Soviet-Polish War. Then came WW2 which devastated Poland, she lost 20% of her population, including most of the elites. After the war, followed communist imposed rule and persecution of those opposed to it or those who had been middle class previously. Poland only regained independence after 1989 and even some of that was after a deal with the communists so that many became very rich in Poland and some still persist there. Poland had to improve her economy and governance to be allowed into the EU. Getting there was 80% of the work. Poland received no reparations for the destruction of the country. Polish elites were exterminated or had to flee and their talent settled overseas. So Poland did way more than many think. All that while enduring anti-Polish racism, not only from the Russians, but also the Germans and the Brits/Americans. Britain Brexited because of Anti-Polish racism.

You Brits were also anti-Polish. Back in the 19th century you actively oppressed Poland to maintain the Concert of Europe status quo. You even Brexited because of Poles. As they say Perfidious Albion. Nothing personal against you but Anglo-Chauvinism against Poles (and others) is a thing.

@ThisGuyAd. He is a highly respected individual and a very intelligent and highly talented guy. So I can imagine that if an intelligent, person who has seen much of the world, says such things, I would think that the common pub beer drinker would be a little less reserved. :) Brits have a very thin skin.

@belstar1128 That continued after WW1. Many Brits did not want Poland to be independent. We can only thank the Americans for pushing it and the success of Polish activists at the time. Point is that Britons sided with their Germanic and Russian allies. Britain is a Germanic country, at heart they are closer to Germans and Austrians and we are just dirty Slavs to them. Americans have that too but are more mixed and have some ideas of liberty. It's important for Britons to know that they contributed to why Poland is weak and backward. They supported the central European system under Prussia/Russia and Austro-Hungary and part of that was the idea that Poland would not exist. We only got our independence by chance. It's important to understand geopolitical positions because they often don't change too much.

@ThisGuyAd. What am I omitting? I thought this was basic knowledge. They signed a mutual defense pact and essentially sat on their a$$es while Poland was destroyed. Secondly, it was in Britain's interest to weaken the Germans because they were going to rule over Europe. No more Austro-Hungarians to balance things out. Remember Japan was also allied with Germany and Japan would kick Britain out of Asia. So what was Britain to do?

@Dylan-q9l2v Poland needed to get to EU standards to be able to join the EU. Poland got there with the help of hard work and various economic measures such as by Balcerowicz.

Won't happen. Not for many years. And if it does, all Europe will fail.

@avitalsheva Sadly many Europeans will still make Polish jokes. That's why I am thankful for migrants into Western Europe. Let us 'backward' Eastern Europeans be backward, and you Western Europeans can become diverse so that the people you colonised can get some payback.

@ThisGuyAd. Yes, the reason was that often unliked comments get deleted by the YT. Only for that reason. Someone who responded to me did the same thing and told me about this. I don't know if this works, but it costs nothing to click the thumbs up. About Norway: sure. Just that Norway was not that instrumental in the past and the Brits often say, oh we were your allies. A prof of mine, a Brit, with big cred, once asked me, whether my parents had a potato field back in PL. He's a big shot on various WHO panels and on BBC or to the Guardian he'd never say such a thing, but to me, it was OK. I know that Poles can also be aholes but at least we were never in a position to dictate to Britain and the rest of the West. We were on the receiving end. ... Thanks.

@ThisGuyAd. One of the world's top experts in one particular infectious disease.

@ThisGuyAd. He's a particular highly educated and highly respected guy. He's in the top 10 league of experts in the world for a particular disease. He's published many papers and has many citations. He's the creme de la creme of the British society. And I've had other experiences with Brits but this guy was the highest ranked Brit who could casually say something like that.

@ThisGuyAd. You're English so I'm just sharing my experience with other English people on the topic of this video. I'm not blaming you. Cheers.

@ThisGuyAd. Typical Brit. Who enslaved half the world? Not us, my mate. I also like how you had to throw in a slur earlier "Polak". Is that what Norwegians say eh? I bet it gave you pleasure to say that. Cheers kid.
