  1. Bill Gates is more of a monopolistic villain than an Internet villain. Microsoft did have some success in controlling the Internet when their ActiveX tech was widely used. However, Microsoft was phenomenally successful because Windows took over the desktop. That came in large part due to anti-competitive policies, e.g. when MS forced OEMs to pay MS for every PC they sold whether or not it had Windows installed on it. MS was nearly split up under Clinton's DOJ but was ultimately allowed to stay intact under Bush's DOJ.
