  1. Judge Merchan did not say that Trump is not going to jail. What Merchan did do was to rebuke Trump's attorney for mentioning the possibility of jail to the jury. The jury in a criminal case does not decide on the sentence, only the verdict. Apparently, it is a big "no no" for either a prosecutor or a defense attorney to talk about possible sentences in front of a jury. I saw two different lawyers on YouTube suggest that Trump may be sentenced to jail time. I don't think he will, but I think he should be sentenced to at least 6 months.
