  1. I worked as an unpaid volunteer doing door knocking for Obama in Florida in 2008 and doing phone banking for Bernie in 2016 and 2020. We as unpaid volunteers were not trying to change people's minds. What we were doing was trying to get likely voters for our candidate to get to the polls. If they needed help or a ride getting to their polling place, we would have someone higher up in the campaign help them. I think it mattered a lot that we were unpaid volunteers. We really wanted our candidate to win.
