@pieterburen6004 Yes, I did live in a city. I find that the Netherlands fixes their infrastructure. In the USA we have a lot of potholes and crumbling bridges. Not having a car saved me a bunch of money (fuel, maintenance, insurance, etc.).
I was able to buy an appartement, but it was crazy there. Housing in the USA is going through the roof too, because of investment companies buying it up. Rental housing in the USA is unregulated whereas in the Netherlands, there was a limit on how high the landlord could raise the rent. One time in the USA, my rent went up about 30% after the first year!
People in the Netherlands seemed more educated and more relaxed. More vacation time, etc. There are so many guns and shootings in the USA; it is crazy. I came out to my parked car once in the USA, and found a bullet hole in the trunk. The Dutch police seemed a lot calmer and less crazy too.
Finally, there were a lot of protests in the Netherlands with some arrests, but nothing like the January 6 attack on the US capitol. The USA seems to be sliding away from democracy and into fascistic authoritarianism, but that remains to be seen.
