Blame Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg. In early 2022, Alvin Bragg inherited a possible criminal financial fraud case against Trump from former DA Cy Vance. The civil version of this case brought by NY AG Letitia James got a rare summary judgement ruling against Trump. What needs to be decided in that case is how much money Trump owes. Had Alvin Bragg not stupidly and/or corruptly dropped the criminal financial fraud case against Trump in early 2022, Trump would have likely already been convicted by now.
