  1. "Residence" has specific meaning in other laws. I own property in another state, so I file income tax in that state each year. That state specifies what a "resident" is vs. a "non-resident", including which state I lived in the majority of the year. I lived outside the USA for two years. Federal law has requirements for whether I was a "resident" of the USA or a "non-resident citizen" of the USA. I was not able to partake in the 2020 USA Census because I was not a resident on specific dates that year. Homestead exemptions and voting also define "residence".
