  4. That’s fine in the U.K. no need to buy a licence unless you do something that needs one. Still you Brits complain. In the Republic of Ireland a charge is levied on mobile & broadband bills.

  8.  @rantingoldgit5125  In the U.K. the Civil Service is is defo not part of the Government. They work for the people as civil servants. Civil Service personnel don’t change on mass when a new government comes in. As far as stories have to be approved before transmission. How long would any story take to be vetted by the Civil Service ?

  28. Nobody is forced to do anything that forces them to purchase a licence. In the U.K. it’s voluntary. In many countries the cost of the national broadcaster comes out of general taxation. Perhaps the U.K. could do the same. It would stop people moaning about something they are not forced to pay.

  29.  @mauriceosullivan6832  That’s your opinion. For me they are the go to network. For both radio & TV. The employer is not responsible for the staff’s private lives. The BBC cannot spy on staff anymore than your employer can have your private life investigated.

  33.  @MrMinima86  I really don’t know why people are kicking off about his employer. Yes he was charged but like all of us innocent until proven guilty. At that stage he was sacked possibly down to a clause in his contract about bringing his employer into disrepute. A chap I worked with was convicted of sexual assault. We knew nothing about it until someone from the village told me it had happened. He had told the boss he had a dental appointment. No mention of going to court. He kept his job.

  43. I can see a problem. It’s trial by media. We are all innocent until proven guilty. If you or I are charged with something our employer cannot just stop paying us. I they want to put us on garden leave all well & good. But we have still got to be paid. If contributions have paid into a pension the your employer cannot withhold your pension.
