Before that it was ask at the counter for things you wished to purchase. The shopkeeper put items in you bag you paid up and left the shop.

London is taking the line of nudging away the most polluting vehicles. Standing up by Alexandra Palace & looking towards the Thames the pollution is hanging there for all to see.

In the last London Mayoral election two people who promised tackling vehicle pollution polled over 90% between them. The Mayor polled over 50%. EU regulations have standardised charging connections for phones, tablets, laptops etc. About a year or so back Apple & others said no way. They have now fallen in line. The EU are apparently mandating the that mobile phones, tablets & laptops must have user replaceable batteries. Looks like the world is going to follow. You may have noticed EU vehicle Euro emissions ratings are used over large parts of the world. So yes you are still greatly influenced by EU decisions. Why on earth did the U.K. leave the EU. If you had stayed you may not have even more sewage in the rivers. Also in the EU there was something called the Dublin something or other. Many people arriving by small boats could be returned to the EU. The U.K. voted to leave that arrangement.

A bunch of people who apparently don’t believe in democracy are taking deliberate action to try to stop it. Up to all sorts of antics inc. criminal damage to cameras & infrastructure. Plus throwing things at and hitting people. Seems things have reached a stage when it’s impacting on everyday policing. Which is one of the reasons some claim London crime is climbing.

Same with people who makes themselves unpopular they stop being invited. Clubs do share names so the word goes round. Anyone who is willing to perhaps ride hundreds of miles to camp in a field at all times of year isn’t likely to be a miserable sod.

  52.  @kinkaito5433  Transport for London are replacing end of life buses with EV. It’s also something you see throughout the U.K. Stagecoach are also moving to EVs. The electorate voted for the Mayor. Meaning ULEZ has a democratic mandate. There is or has been a website called Optical Turnkey they are/were very anti ULEZ but I kept an eye on the number of subscribers. They had fewer than 18k so not a great amount of support. In the meantime we have people sabotaging infrastructure. Not just vandalism but sabotage.

  61.  @polla2256 Scotland has had 20 mph zones. Many U.K. mainland cities are going the same way. Makes it much easier for delivery drivers. Means being slow enough to find house numbers, especially in the dark. Could be worth doing an experiment. Pick a house number a few streets away. Then drive there in the dark looking for it. Also best remember a delivery driver can spend more time looking for numbers than at the road.

  65. 20 mph hour limits have been there in Scotland. Some of those for decades. That’s were the data came from to prove they improved roads safety & cut NHS cost. 20 limits much safer when having to look out for house number. Take a look down your street how easy is for delivery drivers to see the numbers. Especially at night. 20 limits now spreading rapidly in Kent.

Plus training courses. But at one stage was the only person in town that could use a Crypton Tuner for working on vehicles rather than have on as an expensive coffee table.

  159. @ Unfortunately we are surrounded by tall trees so solar panels are out. But I have a friend ( 50 degrees north ) who has solar and a PowerWall. They run two EVs almost totally off grid. He even tows a fixed double berth RV. Charging overnight at camp grounds. Tyres are more expensive but apart from that it doesn’t take much more servicing than a washing machine. Yes there was an initial investment in solar. But he claims a better return than putting the money in the bank. My vehicles are both ICE. So I am not an EV weirdo. But if I had the sun I would be tempted by year old EVs.
