Of course they aren't as green as they appear. They just shift where the greenhouse gases and pollution are released. You have to look at both the resources needed to build these cars, and how the electricity is generated. The BEST green policy is to wean (or force) most people off private car ownership and motoring. Of course, as so much of the economy, and taxes, revolve around cars this is very unlikely to happen.
