  1. A substantial percentage of university degrees are "Mickey Mouse". In my day only 5% were expected to go to university, but government wanted to change this to 50%. To achieve this grants and the payments of tuition fees had to be stopped, and much easier "degrees" had to be created. I do wonder what most of those "teaching" such degrees would otherwise be doing. So many of these young people would be much better off if they had gone straight into a job after school. I feel most sorry for the 5% who should be at university. I studied chemistry and physics. In my day fees were paid, I got a grant, and even my travelling expenses were reimbursed.
