In many other countries all radio and TV channels survive based on their merit. Those that are good get the viewers and therefore receive the sponsorship and advertising revenue. If the BBC is so bloody good then it should be able to do without stealing money from those who don't even watch or listen to it. But the thing is, like in former Iron Curtain countries, the BBC is now the government's lapdog. Throughout this pandemic it has enthusiastically pushed government propaganda, and vigorously suppressed news that the government didn't want us hearing. No wonder it's Downing Street paymasters are so protective about it.
