If most teachers were like Katharine Birbalsingh both our educational results and the state of our society would be vastly better. I love the comment about sunlight being the best disinfectant. I used to say that I had no worries about anyone coming in and observing any of my lessons without giving me any advance warning. As for the smartphone comment, I'd go even further and say you shouldn't be allowed one until you are 18. When it comes to transparency in schools, however, I think it is very fair to say that most parents really don't want to know what's going on in them. Ten years ago I published a very cheap little booklet saying exactly what goes on in most state secondary schools. The reviews were extremely contentious. I got one star reviews from outraged teachers, who were probably management, and five star reviews from grassroot teachers. But the crucial thing to note is that ONLY teachers seemed interested. Parents didn't want to know!
