As someone who tutors A-level maths, further maths, chemistry and physics I am constantly made aware of the damage lockdowns have done to kids. I've seen kids cheated out of the exams they needed to take to go to the university of their choice. Several have definitely been downgraded by incompetent teachers or even out of pure spite. Online "learning" is a pathetic joke, but many kids didn't even get this. They were just told to read their textbooks. I get parents telling me how their kids have become despondent and totally lost the will to study. This makes me incredibly angry, because this virus has always posed a NEGLIGIBLE threat to kids, and a miniscule one to most of those teaching them. Schools and exams should have carried on as normal. Not doing so was an act of unmitigated cowardice and selfishness. The British people should be deeply ashamed of allowing Downing Street to do this to our kids.

@stuart207 I only tutor privately now. Between schools having to pay me top of the scale for my experience, and the fact that I'm not one to bite my lip, UK schools would touch me with a barge pole. How well you can teach your subject ceased to be one of the main recruitment criteria many years ago. Anyway, I would have been sacked for refusing to teach online or enforce any covid-19 restrictions in my classroom.
