  1. Tyrants hate, and fear, being faced down in public, especially by celebrities who might influence people. As for the ordinary Aussies getting their knickers in a twist, it's because Novak has shown them what gullible, spineless, schmucks they are. As Mark Twain said: "It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled." Novak wins either way. If the reigning champion doesn't play then the Open will be a complete farce.
