I can't argue with anything you say, but I think young people, indeed all of us, have one really sound reason to be pessimistic about the future. The vast majority of politicians are lying, cheating scumbags whose promises and fine words count for nothing. They look only to the short term, in the comfortable certainty that they will be dead and buried when the shit really hits the fan. And if you want to get really depressed just look at Australia, where most of the country has convinced itself that climate change is an illusion, so that they can continue exporting and burning as much coal as they can mine.
