  1. During the gold rush days San Francisco experienced a very bad crime epidemic. It was brought to an abrupt end by taking out the worst criminals and publicly hanging them. There's a very famous picture of this "neck tie party". I'm willing to bet that if we publicly shot those who committed stabbings and shootings, and televised it, then we would see an equally miraculous reduction in their occurrence.
