Let's get it right. Teaching hasn't been a PROFESSION for many years. Apart from a few misguided and naive idealists teaching is the last resort of those who are otherwise unemployable, unless they are prepared to stack supermarket shelfs on zero-hour contracts. Why would someone teach a STEM subject when they can earn a lot more in private industry, work sensible hours, not suffer constant abuse (from BOTH students and managers), and be genuinely valued?
