After many decades it should be clear to anyone with even marginal intelligence that the "war on drugs" has been an even bigger failure than the one in Afghanistan. Untold amounts of money and police time have been wasted on this, and what have we to show for it. Drug consumption is probably higher now than it's ever been. The only people benefitting from drugs being illegal are the gangs, who are making a fortune and killing each other over the spoils. And then we have the staggering amount of crime committed by addicts who are desperate to afford their next fix. If drugs weren't illegal their price would nosedive, and almost all the crime related to them would disappear overnight. The incredible savings in not having to fight this crime could be used to educate and try and help addicts.
