  1. Because almost very minister has a humanities or PPE degree, which any thick bastard can get, they are incapable of thinking through the full consequences of squeezing most people's income. The easiest thing for people to economise on is the hospitality industry. Unfortunately, it employs millions, and many thousands of other businesses supply it. And once all these people are out of work we get the double whammy of them having to be supported by benefits, and having hardly any money to spend themselves. Energy producers in the UK, or in UK territorial waters, must be forced to sell, at very close to cost, or nationalised if they refuse. Although the bombs may not be falling, we are facing something very like a war for survival!
