  1. Putin no doubt sold this invasion, to those holding his leash, as something that would be over in a few days, with negligible cost to Russia. He is getting really desperate, because the longer this goes on the more untenable his position becomes. Unless NATO does something stupid enough to allow him to sell an escalation to those supporting him he is going to be removed from power. It's NOT a question of if, just how long, and how!
