What these police did was abhorrent and despicable, but a jail sentence was totally inappropriate, and and absolutely nothing to do with justice. Years ago a friend of mine enjoying herself on an ice rink had her nose broken by a yob. All he got was a derisory fine. Sorry, but I consider breaking a young lady's nose as much more serious. As well as losing their jobs, heavy fines and community service would have been the correct punishment. Taking away someone's liberty is a barbaric thing to do, and should only be done to protect the public or when there is repeat offending that demonstrates the ineffectiveness of other sanctions.
