Meanwhile, and for at least a decade, UK schools have been doing exactly the opposite. They have been throwing the applications of older, more experienced teacher straight in the bin. Most only consider the cheapest newly qualified teachers, and in fact many even prefer to take on trainee teachers who are cheaper still. If any parents are reading this they might like to ask their kids how old most of their teachers are, if they haven't noticed this on open evenings. My own nephew was given a trainee with an English degree to teach him maths, and within a couple of years she was even let loose on 6th form further maths classes, even though she was useless!
