  1. Things like this WILL happen again, and not just in air traffic control, for a very simple reason. When it comes to developing I.T. systems the government prioritises the cheapest development. The trouble is when "YOU PAY PEANUTS, YOU GET MONKEYS"! The best software engineers really are about 10 times as productive as your typical code monkey. They might appear to cost more, but they will produce a far better, much more reliable system, in less time. So you actually SAVE a lot of money. But as most of those in government have Noddy humanities degrees they are too stupid to grasp this very simple fact.
