Let's be very clear. None of our power stations run on oil, so this is no excuse for power cuts. The morons on Westminster have 6 months to make damn sure this doesn't happen. They can buy extra gas from Norway, and Power from France (there's an undersea cable) who have the good sense to use a lot more nuclear power stations. In the 70s far fewer people had freezers or central heating, so blackouts in the winter are now unthinkable. Also, with food prices rocketing expect mass food poisoning as people take a chance rather than throw food out.
