When National Insurance did what it said on the packet it was a very small tax that nobody minded paying. But almost all of the money is now embezzled for other things. This is a tax that has grown like a malignant cancer. If government was honest then N.I. would be amalgamated into income tax and corporation tax. But this would lead to a simpler and easier to understand system, and it's much harder for government to cheat people when things are transparent.
