Am I the only one noticing that this percentage increase is very close to what pensioners should be getting if the chancellor wasn't cheating them, by reneging on the "triple lock". And let's not forget that those (struggling) on minimum wage receive about 2.5 times what an OAP is expected to survive on. Let's also not forget that OAPs are about to see their heating and food bills go through the roof!

@joebloggs3551 That's because you are a short-sighted idiot! It IS the job of the state to provide a pension that people can live on. And yes, that means they have to take a certain amount of tax to provide that pension, AND they mustn't embezzle that tax, or if they do then the ministers responsible need to go to jail for a very long time. Private pensions should only ever be a top up. I've seen good, hard working people screwed when the money they had invested with private companies was wiped out because the company went bankrupt: sometimes due to bent CEOs.
