Parents and families would be even more upset if they had the slightest idea of the quality, or lack thereof, of so many who are purporting to teach their kids. About 30 years ago, after many very successful years as a software developer, I took my PGCE at Leeds University, specialising in maths teaching. I was aghast at how many of my fellow students, some fresh off their maths degree, were terrified of tacking A-level questions on sight. But that's not the end of it. You see, because of the extra cost, most schools now don't employ the older more experienced teachers, they are only interested in recruiting the newly qualified ones, or even just trainees. In fact, some schools even bully their older staff, who are more expensive, into leaving. Don't believe me? Take a good look at the age of most of the teachers in your kid's school.
