  1. Putin is relying on cowards worried about upsetting him. Escalation would be invading Russia. Except in the mind of a madman, helping a sovereign nation defend itself, is not escalation: and one NEVER humors madmen. For purely technical reasons I wouldn't send jets to Ukraine. But what I would do is let our fighter pilots do what they are trained to do in Ukraine. There are so many American, British and Polish pilots just straining at the leash to clear Ukraine of its Orc infestation: and this is totally in keeping with international law.
