  1. While electric cars will make our cities much more pleasant than those powered by petrol and diesel, I do wonder if on a global scale they are improving anything. How carefully have we audited both the cost of producing them, and the CO₂ produced in generating the electricity? Also, if you do long journeys you need to consider that, unlike petrol or diesel, recharging takes much more than a couple of minutes: and a car can go twice as far on a full tank. Getting people completely out of their cars, onto public transport, or cycling, or walking would be so much better. But so much of many economies is dependent on people buying and running cars, so governments don't really want to drastically cut private motoring, no matter how good this might be for the planet, and our children's futures.
