When are people in this country going to understand that you have to pay people fairly in relation to the skill, hardship, and necessity of their job: and that you have to do all you can to insure that their working conditions are as good as possible. HGV drivers deserve to be treated and paid far better. If they had been then we wouldn't now be in this mess. As for 5000 visa's lasting less than 3 months, when there are 100,000 vacancies, this is an imbecilic response. A Polish driver on the news said exactly what I said a few days ago. By the time an application is submitted, and glacially processed by the Home Office, it will only be worth about 2 months. The driver interviewed confirmed my statement that at least a year (from visa approval) is needed.
