  1. These days the trouble is you can never be sure whether what a minister says is down to intense stupidity or pathological dishonesty: probably a good share of both. Anyone with a few function brain cells knows full well that the Taliban will not budge on their ideology. Sure they might make promises, but like Boris Johnson they have absolutely no intention of keeping them. They regard liberal westerners as devils, and nobody feels bad about not honouring a pact with the devil.
