  1. Unfortunately inflation feeds on itself unless a concerted effort is made to contain it. By eating away at the value of savings it encourages people to spend, rather than see what they have got decrease in value. It also encourages people to spend what they haven't got, for fear of what they want to buy going up in price. Inflation is very much like a cancer: it's always better not to have any.
