Our courts have always been incredibly soft on violent criminals, unless you egg an MP or gently jostle the likes of Witless Whitty. Many years ago a friend of mine had her nose gratuitously broken by a lout while she was skating at Queens ice rink. The yob only received a very derisory fine.
