When I was growing up that "stiff upper lip" was still a respected British virtue. When things didn't go exactly as you wanted them you gritted your teeth and got on with your life. These days if it's too cloudy people run to the doctor claiming they are suffering from depression. It used to be that being labelled as mentally ill was seen as deeply shameful. Now many people wear it like a badge of pride.
