  1. Aha, someone telling the hard, but honest, truth that British parents don't want to hear. Most secondary school education in this country is truly abysmal. This is particularly true in maths, further maths, chemistry and physics: all of which I tutor privately at A-level. But you know what? Relatively few of my students come from dyed-in-the-wool English families.

  2. It's very unlikely to be just about money. I tutor A-level maths, further maths, chemistry and physics. By a good margin the majority of my students have parents or grandparents who were not born in the UK. In general, dyed-in-the-wool English kids and their parents do not value education highly, and certainly don't expect to work hard to achieve top grades. Most of these foreign students are probably a lot better than the English ones who didn't get a place.
