Perhaps more people will now do the simple sums and realise that for most people owning a car is an act of gross stupidity. Even without hiked fuel prices, when you consider road tax, the annual MOT and insurance, it often makes a lot more sense to use public transport and just get the occasional cab when you are really in a hurry.

Absolutely correct. Most people should walk, cycle, or use public transport.

@sladehelicoptersgaming3148 The thing is that those driving to the shops don't just hurt themselves. They are poisoning the air for our children, among other things.

@stephfoxwell4620 So you have never grown up, and bugger everybody else.

Most people SHOULD give up private motoring!

@TheDizzylizzy1977 I appreciate what you are saying. So the greater good would be served by fixing public transport. It shouldn't just be regarded as something that should turn a profit, but should be a reliable and affordable service: and help towards government's zero emissions. By the way, we too, at Chase Farm Hospital had our A&E stolen. It was almost exactly halfway between Barnet and the North Middlesex. As well as taking much longer to get many emergencies to A&E, both of the other two hospitals are now massively overstretched.

@sladehelicoptersgaming3148 I do appreciate where you are coming from. However, there are a great many people who really do not fall into your situation.

@TheDizzylizzy1977 Sadly true. But this doesn't mean it couldn't be done properly, just that we always seem to elect incompetent, self-serving politicians. Actually, where I live, in outer London, most people really would be better off without a car.

Good! Most people should not be driving.

@elainekent3551 The stupid ones are those like YOU who would rather pay out far more for a car plus annual road tax, MOT, and insurance than use public transport, or occasionally use a cab.
