  1. Like many natural systems, our climate is what mathematicians and scientists call a chaotic system. What this basically means is that giving it a small nudge can have big and unpredictable longer term effects, and part of that unpredictability is also quantifying "longer term". So while we cannot be certain of impending disaster we can equally well not guarantee that we won't end up in deep s**t. Maybe all it takes is a very small change in temperature gradient to seriously affect the jet stream and the gulf stream. If this happens then that tiny change could have a really dramatic effect on the UK's weather. For instance, if the gulf stream misses the UK coast our climate might well be much the same as Canada's.
