  1. If these demands are genuine then, since they merely ask for recognition of the de facto situation, Ukraine would not really loose anything by acceding to them. They might indeed be Putin's way of trying to get out of this conflict without loosing face. It certainly seems a small price to pay for ending any further death and destruction.
