  1. When I was this boy's age, 52 years ago, such an event would have been very rare and caused real shock and horror. Now it's almost a daily occurrence. Am I the only one who feels that this has an awful lot to do with going really soft on crime? We are spun the argument about softer drugs being the gateway to much harder and more dangerous ones. Could it possibly be that a laissez-faire attitude to so much other crime eventually leads to far more very serious crime?
