  1. So, we are seeing high levels of infection in France and Spain, but with hardly any deaths. Dr. Campbell's speculation on India and parts of South America is also food for thought. Apart from dishonest and desperate politicians, I think most of us can be fairly certain that we won't see a vaccine this year, and probably for at least another 6 to 12 months. What we know beyond any doubt is that lockdowns, quarantines and social distancing are having a truly devastating effect on peoples lives. Businesses and jobs are disappearing at warp speed. Young peoples' education is being irredeemably wrecked. There is also a massive, though less visible, health toll. Many are not receiving the life critical medical care they need, and mental health issues are going through the roof. In view of all this, many are looking enviously at Sweden and are now absolutely certain that, albeit belatedly, we really must follow their example. All the terribly damaging measures need to be lifted, and the entire focus should be on isolating the very relatively small numbers who are truly vulnerable. Why isn't this happening? Because most politicians, and definitely our government, are cowards and cheats. Any change would involve admitting that the approach they took is wrong, and that a large amount of the suffering it caused could have been avoided. So, to avoid losing face, they continue to inflict yet more pain and suffering, totally unnecessarily on the vast majority, for whom covid-19 is less concern than a bad cold or flu.
